What a Day with QuickerTek Product
Today is supposed to be the happiest day in my computing world. I just bought a wifi transceiver for my Al Powerbook G4. It is called Quicky 500 mW Transceiver USB for Mac. I bought it directly from its website for USD 225. What a price for such small and simple device. I have pretty high expectation on the product actually, as the power is 500mW comparing to the original Powerbook Airport which is only 30 mW. On the website it says :
The antenna and transceiver help the Quicky™ boost your wireless RF power from a stock 30 milliwatts to 500 milliwatts - at least ten times the wireless power. That means you can not only see more wireless networks, but when you decide to connect, you’ll also get high speeds that make wireless networking as solid as being connected using a network cable
Low wifi signal is a weakness for Al Powerbook, so this is the device I am hoping would be my last resort. Unfortunately, it is way below my expectation. I got one bar when using the Airport and it is pretty much OK for browsing etc but I was hoping to get more bars when using this device. Alas, it did not do any better than the Airport instead it did worse, I got no additional bars. It hardly can connect to the access point and keep the one bar stable. What a day with this Quickertek product! So based on my experience, this product is highly NOT recommended. This is the email I sent to them, obviously would get no respond.

I just bought a quicky for my powerbook but I am really really disappointed with the product. It DID NOT do any better with my powerbook original airport. even it did WORSE than the airport.
Using the airport alone, I got one bar of signal, and when I use your Quicky, it even hardly can detect any access point. It did detect the SSID but can not connect as it is wayyyyyy tooooo weak.
How come you guys make such bombastic description in your website? for 200s buck are you kidding me?
what should I do now your your useless Quicky? I am really disappointed, way below my expectation.

Sorry, you are having trouble, my guess is that either the unit is bad
or its not installed correctly. We have sold 1000’s of them
so we know they work exceptionally well. What is the signal strength
from the wireless utility screen when you plug it in?
If you wish you can sent a screen shot of that screen or we would be
glad to call at your convenience.
We will do every thing we can to help fix the issue
